The Honest Take — What We’d Change

The A7 is a well-specified commuter at a competitive price. But there are four things to know before buying:

• Hub motor, not mid-drive — 60 Nm, not 130 Nm. The A7’s hub motor is smooth, quiet, and low-maintenance. But it cannot match the A7 Pro’s mid-drive climbing power on sustained steep grades. If your commute includes long 8–10% hills, the mid-drive A7 Pro ($2,999) is the better choice. If your terrain is mostly flat to moderate grades (which covers most Canadian cities), the A7’s 60 Nm hub motor handles it without complaint.
• No dropper seatpost. The A7 Pro includes a 100 mm dropper seatpost that lets you lower your centre of gravity on the fly — a genuine advantage in winter and at traffic stops. The A7 uses a standard seatpost. You can add an aftermarket dropper, but it is an additional cost and installation step.
• 15Ah single battery — adequate, not exceptional. The 720 Wh LG pack delivers honest range for daily commuting. But competitors in this price class offer 20–25Ah options.
